The United States Olympic Endowment (USOE) is an investment endowment that provides grants to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to support America’s athletes.
The USOE is not classified as a “private foundation”; it is classified as a “supporting organization” (a type of public charity) since it exists to support another public charity – the USOPC.
The Endowment also established a program which allows USOPC member organizations to pool their endowment funds, as principals, with the USOE, which acts solely as agent for the investment of the USOPC member organization funds. The USOE does not charge any administrative fee for this service nor does it allocate any of the direct expenses (consulting, manager, or custodian fees) to the participants in the program.
The Endowment established its grant program in 1986. Since inception, $350 million in grants have been awarded to the USOPC and its member organizations.
Since inception of the formal investment program in October 1985, the Endowment has had an annualized rate of return of 8.5% through December 31, 2021.
